Say Goodbye to Depression

(A Guide on How to Overcome Depression)

Sadness, blues, melancholy, loneliness, feeling alone, crying jags --- these are just some of the emotions associated with depression. Most people experienced being depressed at least once or more times in their lives. This is the result of a normal response mechanism to bad news or devastating events in their lives.

However, there are people who suffer from depression for an unusual long period of time beyond what is normally experienced by others. They can suffer continuously or periodically, but the source of what is causing depression never seems to go away, resulting in hampered enjoyment of life. Not only that, relationships and their professional lives may be affected negatively.

Prolonged depression had been linked to aggressive behaviors, suicidal attempts, self-mutilation or cutting, drug addiction and other negative and dangerous activities that have destroyed the lives of those unable to overcome depression.

Saying goodbye to depression may be tough for many sufferers, even costly if medical intervention is necessitated by the severity of the depression, but there are some helpful guidelines that can be of use to people suffering from depression.

Here are several guidelines on how to overcome depression:

1. Identify the root cause of the depression;

2. Once the root cause of the depression is identified, treatment or assistance should be done either by a counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist, a social worker with experience and training in dealing effectively with mental or psychological health problems;

3. If medical or psychological help or assistance is not the best option for the depressed person, caring friends and relatives may be depended upon to uplift or assist the depressed person in overcoming it.

Keep in mind that the friends or relatives must be sincerely concerned for the depressed person and will be more than willing to seek professional assistance, knowledge regarding depression and ways on how to cope with taking care of their depressed loved one; &

4. In the event that the depressed person has no one to turn to for help and is not financially capable to undergo professional psychotherapy and other medical services with fees, he or she can find several ways on how to overcome depression that will not be too expensive.

One way is through the internet where it is easy to get free health tips and advices on the subject of depression. Another is to connect with people suffering from depression also so that the depressed person may find a support group or forum where he or she can raise any questions regarding depression, such as its symptoms, treatments and even about the experiences of people who had overcome it in the past.

In these ways, the depressed person can gain valuable insights and useful resources in combating his or her own struggles with depression.

HOW TO BOOST SELF-ESTEEM

Self-esteem is important for the growth and development of a person. It affects the different aspects of a person's life whether it be personal development, family life, social interactions which includes the relationship with friends, acquaintances, schoolmates or co-workers, and even career growth.  People with high self-esteem are known for success in achieving their goals and dreams.

The question is:  is self-esteem an inborn trait that is found in some people since birth or is it something that can be acquired later in life?  I believe that it is highly possible to boost self-esteem regardless of age, gender or situation in life for as long as the person needing the self-esteem boost knows how to do so.

Some people will ask: how to boost self-esteem at any age? Is it achievable for people who had battled low self-esteem for so many years and had never seen any positive result or even significant changes in their personality development? Yes, it is possible and achievable to boost self-esteem to a healthier level!

There are several steps on how to boost self-esteem:

First:  the removal of deeply ingrained negative self impressions, beliefs or thoughts that one is worthless or is a lesser person than others around him or her;

Second:  the introduction of positive and uplifting affirmations that a person is of great value and worth either to himself or herself, in the eyes of God or as an essential contributor to society however small or big the contribution is;

Third:  the continuous conditioning of the mind, heart and soul of a person that he or  she is a "unique and one of a kind creation" that cannot be duplicated or replaced in this world; &

Fourth:  the assertion of self-worth in dealing with family, partner or friends, co-workers and other people who might try to reinforce the old feelings and mental process associated with lack of self-worth or low self-esteem.

These are highly effective steps that once taken will boost self-esteem and if consistently followed will have the result of a transformed person that has the potential and ability to achieve goals and dreams. Also boosting the self-esteem will enhance interpersonal relationships as well as professional growth that will one day lead to a successful and rewarding life.
